Originally from Edinburgh, Ross started his IT career at UK-wide hospitality company, Macdonald Hotels, and continued there for 12 successful years. After initially providing 1st to 3rd line support, he soon transitioned to a role overseeing the entire internal support function. Ross then took technical lead in management of the infrastructure, and was the main operational contact in an organisation-wide network upgrade, incorporating a new MPLS WAN, LANs, guest Wi-Fi, and wired internet projects. During the closing stages of this project in early 2016, Ross met with Ian, and saw an exciting prospect to work with like-minded IT experts. He then took that opportunity to work with ECL, and has been providing bespoke solutions for our customers’ unique requirements ever since.
Senior Project Manager
Joining Edinburgh Communications in late 2015, Ross has proved to be a valuable asset to the team, bringing with him over twenty years of experience in IT service delivery, and technical project management. With Ross having crossed paths with Ian professionally nearly a decade ago, the pair have been good friends ever since, and are now happy to be working together at ECL. Highly qualified, holding both ITIL and PRINCE 2 certifications among others, Ross also brings an enviable track record with him. Beginning his technical career at Scottish Widows in the early 90’s, Ross progressed to senior consultant roles at Basilica Computing and Computacenter, before taking up a number of service delivery and project management positions over the last 15 years, at such companies as RBS, Dell, and ECS.
Originally from Bromley in Kent, James spent several years as a Senior IT Engineer in the City of London’s financial centre, before moving to Scotland in 2007. Based in Edinburgh, he immediately entered into a networking specialist role, implementing WAN and remote access services for Bethany Christian Trust, and later on a larger scale for the Turner & Co. group. Having developed an interest in Unified Communications, in 2012 James joined an IPT focused Cisco partner, IPComplete Ltd, where he met Ian. The two remained friends and James began working with ECL in April 2015.
Senior Network Security Consultant
An IP communications and security expert with 20 years in the industry, Graham joined Edinburgh Communications in January 2016. Born and raised in the Scottish Borders, Graham began his IT career in 1992 as a software engineer while at University in Aberdeen. On leaving University he made the switch to network engineering with a role for the local council; and from there several high profile roles followed, including key technical positions at service providers Carrier1 and Tiscali UK.
Already a recognised Internet governance influencer, with RIPE membership and a position on the steering committee of IXScotland, Graham began consulting for RBS in 2008, working as technical lead on many key network security projects. Then, in September 2015, after discovering common interests with Ian at a chance meeting, Graham joined ECL, and has brought ISP, network carrier and security expertise to the team.
Hailing from Aberdeen, Ian spent his early career as an Electronics Engineer in the Royal Air Force, but struck out on his own into the still young IT industry in 1996. After several years as a successful independent consultant, Ian joined Intergen, where he spent over 11 years as the technical authority for their European infrastructure. Looking for a new challenge, Ian reluctantly left Intergen in 2013, and went on to found Edinburgh Communications Ltd in February 2014, realising a long-standing ambition to develop his own brand of IT services.
